Located at the southeast coast of China, XiaMen is a tourist city of Fujian Province famous for its attractive seascape. It is a typical littoral city with abundant tourist attractions such as islands, mountains, temples and parks... Well, we were more precisely on Gulang Island (鼓浪屿) again in a youth hostel. What we were searching for there, was just the sun and the beach: as French people, it was unacceptable to be in holidays without feeling the sunlight tanning our skin and bathing in the sea, our opinion.
In fact, that is what we found in XiaMen! We thought maybe that it was the Chinese place of Sea, Sex and Sun... Not really though: where were the girls in bikini rolling down the streets of XiaMen on their inliners (surprising?)? Not really here... Disappointing? Well, it seems that in China, when you go to the beach before 5 o'clock in the afternoon and lay down in the sand, either you are a foreigner or you might be crazy... I noticed two things on Chinese beaches:
- Chinese people cannot swim (it's not a legend as I thought, it is true)
- The beaches and the sea are very dirty in comparison with our European ones.
Therefore I have two things to say to Chinese people: "Guys, it is time for you to learn how to swim, it could be helpful in some cases" and, in addition, "Why the hell are you caring so few importance about your environment?! Just don't throw your garbages in the water or in the sea!". In fact, if you walk barefoot on the beach and don't care about where you are putting your foot on, you could quickly fall into a piece of broken glass...
Anyway, enough critics, or you will believe that we didn't have fun on this island. During the evenings we went outside of the Island, back to the center of XiaMen to find some restaurants and bars. I advise you to go to XiaMen, it's is very beautiful and the atmosphere is quite exotic. Let's have a look at the pictures!
